Activity 1: What is Weather?

Discuss various types of weather. How would you dress in each type of weather? During what season do we typically experience this weather?
Use the Weather Graph on page 5 to chart the weather each day for 2 weeks.


Activity 2: How do we Measure Weather?


Learn about some important tools to determine weather with this worksheet. Cut the words on the left side apart from the definitions and have student(s) match them.

Watch this video to see what a thermometer is, how it works, and how to use it.



Make your own thermometer to see how a thermometer really works.

Activity 4: Make your own thermometer.

Make a practice thermometer in order to practice reading the temperature.

Activity 5: Practice reading the temperature.

Use a real thermometer to practice reading the temperature in various places: inside the house, outside in the shade, and outside in the sun. Use the Worksheet on page 3 of this packet: "Learning About Temperature" to record your findings. Then use the Worksheet on page 22 of the same packet to record the temperature outside in the morning and the afternoon each day for one week.
