Target Age: 8-12
Overview:
In our family, we like to start "formal" cooking lessons when the kids turn 8. Of course, they've been helping in the kitchen up to that point, but once they turn 8, they get to learn to be more independent in the kitchen. These cooking lessons are written directly to the student. He/ she can sit down and read the lesson on the computer. Each lesson mentions a page or two in their "workbook." You will have to print this ahead of time using the links within the lessons. Go over those pages together. Then, each lesson will give you a chance to practice actually cooking or preparing something in the kitchen.
You will want to start a book of recipes for your child to keep as they work through the lessons. Have him/ her copy them in their own writing, or print them and put them into a binder.
